food and color
I heard from a psychological study that we tend to eat 33% less in a blue room than a yellow or red one. I also heard that if the color of our food matches the color of our plate, we tend toeat significantly less. This goes to show that colors have a great effect on the food we eat. They alter our impression of food. Food generally has a specific color depending on what it is. We now have the ability to dye our food to change how we may feel about it. It is still the same food, just a new color. Many foods are only a color because of food coloring. The creators had to think of what color they wanted it to be and why.

I've also heard that the color of our plate will have an effect on consumption of food. It's psychologically in depth to think that the mind is so powerful that it directs a person on what to eat, what to think about and why they are eating it. So, to comprise the ideas of the psychological side of food, along with food itself, it can bring a whole new type of art work. A piece that would depict people's personal opinions and ideas, solely based around the item of food would demonstrate the differences within people. Images of several different types of foods and their color could be displayed and viewers could pick out their preference of most appealing. This would bring together a psychological stand point along with food and color.
ReplyDeleteI find the statistic about eating 33% less in a blue room to be very interesting. As I had mentioned during my critique, the only natural blue food that I could think of to use in my project was blue berries. It makes me think that there is an evolutionary factor for there not to be as many blue foods. Maybe blue foods are not as visually appetizing? The reproduction of any blue foods may have not been successful because of this. In any case, the statistics that were posted really made me think.
ReplyDeleteI never looked into the statistics of how we look at and eat food, so it's very interesting that you brought a new way to look into this theme of food and color; and the impression it leads in our decisions with food.
